Znanje vrhunskih nogometaša i rukometašica o sportskoj prehrani

The aim of this paper was to determine the knowledge of elite athletes about sports nutrition and compare it with relevant studies in Croatia and the world. For this purpose, the nutrition knowledge questionnaire for endurance athletes was translated and modified. The questionnaire consists of 5 categories:1. Nutrition recommendations for endurance athletes, 2. Dietary supplements, 3. Fluid balance and hydration, 4. Energy intake and recovery, 5. Association between food choices and body image. The study involved 29 respondents aged 17-34, of which 15 were male football players and 14 were female handball players. Athletes' total knowledge of sports nutrition is 58.2%. Football players achieved an average of 60.5% and handball players 55.8% of correct answers, but the difference is not statistically significant. The highest number of points was achieved by athletes in the category of association between food choice and body image, and the lowest in the category of dietary supplements. This helps identify topics that would be good to address in athletes' education on sports nutrition.
