Project Domain: A Formalist Exercise in the Education of Architects
The way of looking, the way of drawing and the way of building are causally related. The project domain is drawn by a sequence of notions, paradigms and epistemologies surrounding the practice and the education of architecture. The discussion about the opposition between the picturesque and the sublime leads to the hierarchically substantiated architectural perspective: from the appropriation of the horizon, to the elevatedview from above. From this disinterested formalist point of view, it is possible to expand the domain of the architectural project from the object in the immediate surroundings onto the vast geographic scale. The Crystal Palace in London is not just the architectural paradigm of the modern world but may also be the paradigm of the actual state of architecture in many convergent ways.
