Methodological Step Forward in Pedagogical Research

The need for a newer approach to research on pedagogical phenomena has been emerging for some time. Recent studies in education have shown the dominance of quantitative methodology, the positivist paradigm, and there is an increasing number of papers lacking "discussion" as an extremely important part in which the relationship between the results obtained and theoretical frameworks are clarified. Discussing the significance of the research findings is very important (and requires additional effort) because we associate the results with known facts about the research topic, compare it with other, similar research, as well as provide possible explanations and suggest changes that could be put into practice based on the results obtained. Furthermore, pedagogical research is particularly sensitive because of the research participants themselves (who are mostly children, pupils, students and teachers at all levels of education) who require a special methodological approach and adaptation of research techniques (tools) to the specific research context. An additional challenge in pedagogical research is the research on the future of education that is minimally represented, and the reason for this is the lack of knowledge of futuristic research methods, the specific methodological approach, but also the unequal importance of future research (predicting possible scenarios) in comparison to other research approaches in which one starts from exploring the past and / or the present. A global challenge in the development of pedagogical methodology is the connection between research and practice and the impact on change, the emphasis on theoretical grounding, and a holistic approach to the research problem. The new approach to methodology should at least be creative - focused on the freedom of researchers and adaptable to the situation in the field.
