Young Peoples' Identifications and Support for Immigrant Rights
Existing studies indicate the possibility of different relations between national and global identifications with out-group attitudes and attitudes towards human rights. While the effect of national (and European) identification on these attitudes could depend on exclusive definitions of the identity content, identification with humanity is more universally related to positive outgroup attitudes and endorsement of human rights. In this study we will focus on the context of young peoples’ support for immigrant rights with the primary goal of exploring the effects of national identification, European identification and identification with all humanity on young peoples’ support for immigrant rights. The study is based on online cross-cultural survey data collected among secondary students in European and Asian countries participating in the EU Horizon 2020 CHIEF project. The data will be analysed by multi-group structural equation modelling. Results will be discussed in terms of universal relations between different level identifications and out-group attitudes as well as cultural differences in the meaning and possible consequences of national and global identifications.
