Erytrhrocytapheresis on haemonetics MCS PLUS for preoperative autologous donation
Preoperative autologous donation (PAD) of two whole blood (WB) units is a commonly used technique in UHC Zagreb for elective orthopedic and urological procedures with a predictable blood loss. The common method is to collect one WB unit weekly with last unit collection at least 72 h before the procedure to allow time for blood volume replenishment. Also operation should be within the shelf life of the units (35 days). Erythrocytapheresis (EF) makes it possible to collect two red blood cell (RBC) units in one session, and prolonge the interval to operation what gives more time for erythropoiesis recovery.
