The significance of isoagglutinin titer in transplantation of ABO red cell-incompatible allogenic hematopoietic stem cells
Transplantation of hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) from ABO red cellincompatible donors occurs in 30–50% of patients. Acute hemolysis is potential complication during infusion of ABO incompatible (bidirectional or major) bone marrow (BM) and peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) components. Hemolysis is mediated by recipient’s anti-A, anti-B and/or anti-AB isoagglutinins, causing immunological destruction of donor red blood cells in hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) transplant.
