Interlacement of cognitive, semantic and grammatic features: what does define acquisition of spatial representations?
Exploring language development it is quite justified to be primarily focuced on different linguistic aspects, descirbing the course of one of language components, such as e.g. lexic or morphology. However, an important aspect of language acquisition is its correlation with cognitive development. Acquisition of spatial representations is a good example of language development which requires aknowledgment of both language development and cognitive maturation. Vast number of studies proved the existenceof consistent developmental picture: there are regularities in the order and age of the acquisition of prepositions. Studying Croatian, language with demanding morphological rules and diversity, we raise the question about the interlacement of different factors that do/could play role in acquisition of spatial representations expressed by preopositions. Semantic analysis as well as grammatical analysis of first prepositions acquired by two children, should serve as a ground for further discussion on a development of spatial schemes. All the gathered data are related to language input and, thus, additional pro and cons for language specifity and interindividual differences will be provided.
