Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and Depression in Soldiers with Combat Experiences.
The aim of the abstract was to explore the prevalence of depression in combat-experienced soldiers with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and to compare psychosocial, medical, and trauma-related variables in veterans with combat-related posttraumatic stress disorder (CR-PTSD) with and without depression. The differences between soldiers with PTSD and without depression were only on pre-trauma factors (previous psychiatric disturbance, positive family history of psychiatric illnes, previous primary major depression, and number of admissions). Different assessment methods must be used to establish the final diagnoses in the situation of treatment or expert examination for compensation-related purposes of combat-experienced soldiers with PTSD to avoid possibility of the factious disorder and malingering.
