The degree of angular unconformity as an indicator of potential bauxite bearing deposits

The study of angular relations along depositional contacts marked by karst, Mediterranean type of bauxites of the Mesozoic and Cenozoic age in the region of the External Dinarides reveals that they correspond with the two different types of unconformity, i.e. disconformity and angular unconformity. The first is related to bauxite deposits formed during the Middle to Late Triassic, Late Jurassic and Early Cretaceous reflecting the overall stability of the carbonate platform of the Dinarides during that time. The second is related to deposits of the Late Cretaceous, Paleogene and Neogene age and indicates a strong impact of tectonic activity. The angular unconformity marked by bauxite deposits of the Late Cretaceous - Paleocene to Early Eocene age shows the angular distribution pattern that could be possibly explained by presented geometric model. The same model might help to realize where to expect locations of potential bauxite bearing deposits hidden under the overlying Paleocene to Early Eocene sediments.
