Neke dileme i mogućnosti istraživanja uloge digitalnih medija u nastavi i učenju

The paper explores some of the features of research into the role of digital media in teaching and learning based on the student-centred teaching and lifelong learning. Some aspects of the historic development and the change in model and methodology of media research are presented. There are also some contemporary didactic trends presented along with the current understanding of the use of digital media in teaching and learning. Then the aspects of the qualitative and quantitative approach to research of the use of digital media in teaching, as well as general education and training, are defined, described and categorised. More detailed analysis of some methods and data collection, analysis and verification strategies are provided. The synthesis of analysed aspects of media research in teaching and learning has yielded certain information and conclusions. First of all, school, teaching, learning, and education in general, are phenomena determined by many, more or less intertwined, factors, so it is suggested that the choice of the research methodology depends primarily on the characteristics of the research goal and sample. This is complemented by the selection of appropriate procedures and data collection strategies, together with data analysis and results verification. In that context, the inadequacy of the experimental research design of media research in teaching and learning is emphasised, as well as the unwanted influence of the parasitic factors. On the other hand, both qualitative and quantitative methodology, and their combination are justified. Due to some of the functional features of digital media and the epistemological particularities of teaching, a special opportunity can be found in action research, content analysis, multivariate research, futurology methods, grounded theory, and medical MRI and PET methods.
