The sculpture park in Sisak: in search of answers
Sisak Sculpture Park in Croatia is a collection of 38 outdoor metal sculptures produced from 1971 to 1990 by the artists who participated in the art colonies organized by the Sisak Steelworks. The collection is unique not only because of the interaction of the artworks with industrial setting and the public space, but also because they have been created in a very close cooperation between worker and artist. In the case of some of the sculptures, the workmen appropriated the role of co-author without the knowledge or consent of the artist. In 2012 a project was initiated with the aim of protecting and conserving the sculptures. This paper discusses the works that have been carried out to date and addresses several theoretical and practical questions that have arisen.
