The historical development of money

The history of money spans thousands of years. The scientific study of money, its history and the various forms in which it is found is called numismatics. The theory of money is one of the most complex theoretical parts of modern economic science. The role of money in the modern economies is very important. Money is actually everything that is generally accepted as a means of paying for goods and services, or for paying off debts. Etymologically, the word money is believed to have originated in the temple of Hera, located on one of the seven hills of Rome. In ancient times, Hera was often associated with money. The Temple of Juno Moneta in Rome was the site of a coin factory in ancient Rome. The name Juno probably comes from the Etruscan goddess Uni, meaning unique, true, and the name Moneta comes from either the Latin word monere (reminds, warns) or the Greek word moneres (alone, unique).
