Educational research studies in natural sciences suggest that interactive learning significantly enhances the effect of teaching when compared to traditional lectures. 125 students from the Faculty of Teacher Education of the University of Zagreb took part in this study. The aim of the study was to compare the achievement in the familiarity with the plants between the 1st year students who were acquainted with the plants during the lectures and seminars by means of digital materials, and the 2nd year students who were acquainted with the plants through lectures and seminars using the interactive materials. Interactive learning was carried out as follows: The students were supposed to create plant maps after outdoor lessons. Maps of pressed plants had to be created according to a given list and instructions (both written and oral), according to different techniques or combinations (digital map of plants, drawings, pressed plants, textual labels, informatic representations, etc.) The Achievement in Learning Natural Science was measured by the same test, and the results were compared by means of a t-test. Measures of achievement included the following items: Taxonomic determination, native name, and habitat. The use of interactive learning requires a higher teacher engagement in teaching lessons compared to lectures. The use of interactive learning encourages students' activities for more permanent acquisition.
