Applying green methods in synthesis of biscoumarin from 4-hydroxycoumarin
The aim of our work was to synthesise biscoumarins by condensing 4-methoxybenzaldehyde with 4- hydroxycoumarin, using ethanol as a reaction medium and applying three different „green“ methods: microwave irradiation, ultrasound irradiation and synthesis in a ball mill. The reactions were carried out: a) in catalyst-free conditions, b) using catalytic amount of molecular iodine. The results show that the usage of iodine as a catalyst enchances theses reactions, reduces the reaction time and increases yields compared to the reaction under catalyst-free conditions.
