Among the Beneventan, Italian, South German, and Hungarian Traditions: Research Aspects of Croatian Medieval Plainchant Manuscripts
After a short historical introduction, Dalmatian Medieval musical sources are discussed. In this, firstly Beneventan musical codices from Dubrovnik, Trogir, and Zadar are presented, as well as the non-Beneventan missal from Šibenik. Medieval musical sources from northern Croatia are represented by musical codices from the diocese of Zagreb. In order to define the different layers of liturgical and musical traditions that have entered medieval Croatian lands, it is necessary to investigate in detail every extant manuscript, catalogue the sources, produce critical facsimile editions, and establish lists of chant repertories and inventories on every single source, and in general.
