Conflict and Unity in Hobbes' Commonwealth of Jews
The question of the transformation of a disunited multitude into the political unity is of the central importance to the various versions of Hobbes’s science of politics. The paper focuses on the third part of Leviathan, Of a Christian Commonwealth. It is there that we encounter a systematic account of the biblical Jewish Commonwealth, its origins and fall as the only historical example of the state genereation found in Leviathan.
