From Acquisition to Institution: The Peculiar Kingdom of God
Paper focuses on Hobbes's account of the generation of the Israelite theocracy as it is presented in the third part of Leviathan. Thereby author tries to show that the proper understanding of Hobbes’s theory of the state does not involve a choice between the state by acquisition and the state by institution. It is rather about the appropriate evaluation of their relation. The puzzle of somewhat uneasy coexistence of the two types of state in the synchronic scheme seems to be resolved when they are considered as different figures that the state necessarily obtains as it strives for endurance in the dimension of time.
