The Venetian fortress of Palamida, Greece
The famous fortress is located above the town of Nauplia (Venetian Napoli di Romania, Greek Nafplio), on the Peloponnese Peninsula. It is a building, or rather a complex of buildings, which has not ceased to interest and inspire both professionals and the general public in their belief that the fort is indeed an exceptional monument. Despite such popularity, it can be argued that the fort has not yet been given a comprehensive interpretation, which is the aim of this article. We have therefore striven to present the fort more completely than it has been done in the analyses so far, and have based our research on archival sources.
