When gaffers go to the secretariate: On the specific linguistic code in children's/YA diary prose

Slang is a part of the linguistic code which indicates the existence of common knowledge and interests, and the use of which becomes an identity marker, especially among adolescents. The observed works, in which the subject/storyteller of the diary has taken their first step into the world of adolescence, and in which the storyteller abundantly uses slang, are fictional diaries Seventh B [Sedmi be, 1939] by Joža Horvat and Diary of Mila Horvat [Dnevnik Mile Horvat, 2004] by Ivana Josić. These texts show that slang is most commonly used in the areas of lexis and phraseology. The results of the reception (a study was conducted among children and adolescents) confirm the familiarity of the respondents with the mode of linguistic expression present in the texts ; i.e., the research confirms that the authors were justified in using this linguistic approach.
