Fecal calprotectin as a biomarker of IgE-mediated food allergy in children with atopic asthma
Fecal calprotectin (FCP) is a biomarker of intestinal in-flammation. As intestinal inflammation plays an important role in the development of immune- mediated diseases, such as allergies, it is proposed that FCP could serve as a diagnostic biomarker of food allergy (FA) in children. The aim of this preliminary investigation was to compare FCP level in infants and children under 4 years of age suffering from atopic dermatitis (AD) with and without IgE- mediated food allergy (FA), with FCP level in healthy controls.
