A comparison of green chemistry methods in synthesis of quinazolinone based Schiff bases
In the recent years, to avoid or minimize the damage of environment, ultrasound-assisted synthesis (UAS), microwave-assisted synthesis (MAS) and mechanochemical synthesis (MS) are important modern green techniques for synthesis of organic compounds. The quinazolinone core and its derivatives have been studied because of their wide range of biological activites such as antibacterial, antifungal, antitumor, anticolvulsant, antiinflammatory and antimicrobial. The main goal of this study was to investigate the yields and time required for the completion of reaction for Schiff bases. A series of quinazolinone based Schiff bases were synthesized via condensation of 3-amino-2-methyl- 4(3H)quinazolinone with substituted benzaldehydes by microwave, ultrasound and mechanochemical mixing. The novel procedure features short reaction time, moderate yields and simple workup.
