Leadership in public administration: is there a ‘woman’s way’?
The question of leadership in public sector became more important in last decades, parallel with the shift from ‘government’ to ‘public governance’ which emerged at the same time as the introduction of public sector reforms inspired by new public management doctrine. Along with researches that focused on of public sector leadership, gender perspective becomes more important in debates on leadership in the public sector. Important theoretical aspects in studying gender and public sector leadership present feminist theories and approaches. The aim of this paper is to provide a map of leadership and gender studies over time in order to provide a grounding to assist in future studies of public leadership and gender. The paper seeks to extend and deepen the current understanding of the gender perspective in public administration, by examining how the study of the field of public administration includes the issue of gender, in academic scholarship in Croatia.
