Apocryphal Passion of James the Apostle in Croatian Glagolitic Breviaries
During the Middle Ages, apocryphal and hagiographic Acts of the Apostles of various origins were introduced into Croatian Glagolitic literature. In the Temporale of two Glagolitic breviaries, the Epistle of James is followed by the Passion of St. James the Apostle (Jacobus Maior, apost., filius Zebedaei, frater Johannis, Passio, BHL 4057). Introductory lessons from the Passion of St. James, describing the miraculous conversion of Hermogenes the Sorcerer, are found in Brevijar Vida Omišljanina (Breviary of Vitus of Omišalj) (1396) and in 2. novljanski brevijar (2nd Breviary of Novi Vinodolski) (1495). The Glagolitic texts of the passion are rendered in their Latin transliteration.
