Analysis of the incidence and usage of the term "hybrid war(fare)" in the digital media space of the Republic of Croatia

The term hybrid war(fare) is often used as a label for contemporary war(fare)s, fought by non-classic military methods. It is expected that this term is clearly understood by the experts dealing with this issue, but how is this concept used and interpreted in the digital media that approaches the wider audience? The paper begins by stating the motives that led to the research. Next, the definition the "hybrid war(fare)" is presented in the ways that the relevant sources interpret it. This is followed by outline of the research methodology of the analysis performed, here in a form of a review. The review protocol followed a content search and extraction pattern carried out within the national domain of the Republic of Croatia. This way the authors were able to identify, collect and process the contents that provides examples in which this term has been used within the time frame the research is considering. In addition to that, the analysis provides information regarding the sources, frequencies as well as the ways and typical cases in which the terms appeared in media. Based on the results, the authors point out to potential problems as well as preventive mechanisms to counter the abuse of this term. Finally, the authors present guidelines for further research.
