The Pygmalion effect in spoken Croatian discourse

From the point of view of phonetics, which studies speech from scientific and practical aspects, it is obvious that disciplines such as orthoepy, orthophony, rhetoric and the study and learning of Croatian dialects are crucial in spoken discourse. In scientific sense, the art of spoken language studies the manner of speech, which encompasses a wide range of terms, from false vocal fold to archetypal speech. The elegance of speech, on the other hand, is reflected in civility, sophistication and aesthetic features of speech, as well as in appropriate proxemic relationships and speech etiquette. With regard to orthoepy, there are frequent partial interpretations of the term which encompass only accents, while other components of orthoepy are neglected. This paper presents the methods and results of the speech learning process and spoken discourse learning process in some courses offered at the University of Zagreb. Contemporary scientific literature contains numerous methods of speech learning and the protocols for speech assessment. That is why this paper presents the protocol for speech performance (using the examples of professional speakers), that is, the prosodic features of speech, the deviation from the experts assess speech, and objective analysis carried out with the help of special software. In order to clearly explain the analysed examples of professional speakers, audio clips from their speech have been illustrated with sonograms and oscillograms.
