Attitudes of pre-service teachers on the acquisition of competencis for teachin physical and health education
The task of the course Kinesiological Methodics is to introduce the students, future teachers, to the legalities within the physical and health care area and to train them for practical, creative performance of the teaching process and other processes of physical exercise with the pupils. The aim of this research was to examine the attitudes on the acquisition of competencies and the students’ satisfaction with the teaching of kinesiological methodics during the studies as well as their opinion on their qualification for carrying out the teaching of PE classes. A questionnaire was conducted on the sample of 136 students enrolled at the Faculty of Teacher Education, divided into four subunits with regards to the year of studies, and, along with the descriptive parameters, the χ² test and the Mann-Whitney U test were applied to determine the differences between the participants. The results point to the pre-service teachers’ attitude that the knowledge gained in the courses of kinesiological methodics will be helpful in their future occupation (F = 7.37, p <0.05). However, they also stated the importance of continuous training upon the completion of the studies (F = 5.56, p <0.05). In general, but mostly at the fourth year of studies, the participants expressed their dissatisfaction with the number of practice hours in schools as a precondition for quality preparation (2.38 ± 1.04). They stated that teacher competence is more important than good working conditions and in this item there is no statistical significance between the years of studies (χ² = 2.62, p> 0.05). It is concluded that the pre-service teachers show the tendency of satisfaction increase with the teaching of kinesiological methodics in senior years of study, but at the same time it is concerning that in more senior years of study there appears to exist a decrease in the self- assessment of their own competence for performing the teaching of PE classes.
