Sacralization of landscapes and sacred places: case studies from Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina

In the introductory lecture, the authors analytically present archaeological and cultural anthropological approaches to sacred sites and processes of sacralization. The central part of the workshop consists of two topics: (1) the research of the Slavic sacred landscapes within the theory of the so-called "sacred triangles" of the old Slavic faith, and (2) the continuity of the place sacredness and the processes of resacralization of pre-Christian sacred places within the Christian register. The topic of contemporary non-institutional sacralizations of Christian, interreligious and political sites will follow. In the final part of the workshop, the authors discuss the heritagization of sacred landscapes and power relations in heritage production. The workshop offers extensive archaeological and ethnographic material from Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
