Sociosexuality

Over the last several decades, the study of individual differences in sociosexuality as well as its underlying mechanisms greatly advanced our understanding of the important aspects of interpersonal relationships, i.e. sex and sexuality. Sociosexuality is especially relevant in explaining gender and cross-cultural differences in sexuality and their implications, as well as how social and physical environmental factors affect reproductive behavior. These advances were possible because the concept of sociosexuality is theoretically well-grounded and has clear and valid operationalizations. The abundance of studies embedded sociosexuality within a nomological network of relations with a wide range of other individual difference variables and consequential mating behavior, showing fundamental differences between short- and long-term mating strategies.
