The Collaboration of Schools, Music Associations, and Town Institutions: How Does a Pupil Benefit?
There are many benefits to be derived from the collaboration of school with programmes outside of school. The aim of this chapter is to highlight one way in which the Croatian educational system addresses the goals, namely through the promotion of extracurricular music activities within compulsory education. The main part of this chapter will provide the information about three examples from practice which support the collaboration with outside partners. The Musical Theorem programme and three singing festivals (school, town and regional festivals) are analysed and described. In order to provide a context for this discussion, the characteristics of the Croatian educational system is first described. The description of the possibilities for collaboration mentioned in this chapter, testifies that the school, community organizations, city and county administrations can act as equal partners in making the school a place custom-made for the pupils and serving to the benefit of society.
