Role of Corporations in Development of CSR
The paper brings an overview of the history of development and the role of corporations in creation of value of modern society as well as negative externalities of their operations which are manifested in environmental degradation and very often in degradation of human rights. Common business governance, stated in corporate laws of 19th century is starting to change with introduction of corporate social responsibility (CSR). Although there is increasing number of corporations which are realizing the importance of accepting the responsibility for non-financial effects of their business operations, widely excepted turn toward CSR in corporations can be expected after stronger pressures of consumers and shareholders as well as public authorities but also after necessary changes in corporate laws. Corporations can than become powerful actors in creation of social values and protection of natural resources.
