Editorial: The Role of Optineurin in Immunity and Immune-Mediated Diseases

This editorial provides an overview of the collection of articles submitted to the topic "The Role of Optineurin in Immunity and Immune- Mediated Diseases". The multifunctional nature of an adaptor protein optineurin has been a subject of research for more than 20 years. Several complex diseases have been linked with abnormalities in optineurin including primary open angle glaucoma, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Paget’s disease of the bone and Crohn’s disease. The aim of the collection has been to gather various lines of evidence for overlapping pathways associated with these seemingly rather distinct diseases. In the editorial we briefly highlighted the major conclusions as well as open questions of the collection, and placed them in the context of the existing research in the field.
