Poverty as a Determinant of Divorce
Correlation between marriage and economic wealth is well known and very old. Without any doubt, inancial problems affect marriage stability and make families fragile. In this paper we will research the love‐money relation from another perspective. We will not examine inancial problems as a cause of marriage breakdown but rather the other way round: poverty as a determinant of the end of a marriage. Using data and statistic results of some researchers, in this paper we will try to point out how today divorce produces new poverty, especially for women and children. We will try to discover the relationship between discrimination (on gender and age level) with the inancial status of women after divorce. Finally, we will try to relate theology to this problem, having in mind the perspective and possibilities of theology to help divorced people and children from broken families.
