Kinetics and Mechanism of the Reaction of the Aquapentacyanoferrate(II) Ion with 1-benzoylethylpyridinium Chloride
The present workis an extension of research on the reactions between pyridinium chloride derivatives and pentacyano complexes of iron. In this work we examined the reaction of (Fe(CN)5(H2O))3- with 1-benzoylethylpyridinium chloride, BEP. The investigations are performed in buffered water solutions where a collored and water-soluble compound is formed. The kinetics of the reaction was followed spectrophotometrically on a Durrum 110 "stopped-flow" instrument. The reaction followed pseudo-first order kinetics and rate constants increased linearly with the concentration of the ligand. Kinetic results are in the best agreement with expected dissociative reaction mechanisms of the substitution of (Fe(CN)5(H2O))3- with different ligands. On the basis of kinetic data the mechainsm will be determinated and the activation parameters of the examined reaction calculated.
