The “Humanities” in the Anthropocene
Could we not uncover the reasons for the decline of humanities in education in their very origin and the initial division into the natural world, with all its entropies, as it was once understood, and the humanist world of ordered human creativity we are living in at this very moment of the anthropocene? The aim here is to follow a thought experiment in which ‘a visit to a cemetery’ would reconstruct the rules and directions of a living substance constantly changing in appearance before our very eyes, preventing clear designation. Neither archaeological nor genealogical in its method, this text seeks to defend the reconstruction of analytic tools precisely through guerrilla forms of swift and specific analysis of small and individual life forms. The question then becomes whether anthropology (with special emphasis on the anthropos) indeed is the highest level of humanities (studi humanitatis), after which their humanity is exhausted? What then we can describe under the umbrella term, anthropocene?
