MUSICAL TERMINOLOGY IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL MUSIC TEACHING FROM THE SECOND WORLD WAR TO THE BEGINNING OF CROATIA'S INDEPENDENCE

The socio-political image of Croatia at that time, as well as the language, from the Second World War to the beginning of Croatia's independence is specific, especially after Novi Sad's „agreement“ imposed by the forces of the ruling ideologies of the time when the Croatian language was in an even worse position. As a result of the „agreement“, a book on orthography appeared in two different „versions“, the Zagreb/Croatian (Latin) version and the Novi Sad/Serbian (Cyrillic) version: The Orthography of the Croatian Literary Language, that is, The Orthography of the Serbian-Croatian Literary Language. It is therefore understandable that this also had a negative effect on Croatian musical terminology. Primarily because it forced internationalism in vocational discourse which then resulted in terminological (non) harmonization. Therefore, this work will analyze the differences in the terminology used in textbooks, manuals and curricula when teaching music in elementary school. The corpus of the research will cover orthographic dictionaries and in addition to the aforementioned The Orthography of the Croatian Literary Language, musical terminology from orthographic dictionaries published before the „agreement“ will be analyzed, those being: Dragutin Boranić The Orthography of the Croatian or Serbian language 91947, 101951. ; Stjepan Babić, Božidar Finka and Milan Moguš Croatian Orthography from 1971., popularly known as Londonac and The Orthography Manual of the Croatian or Serbian Language Vladimir Anića and Josip Silić from 1986. In addition to the orthographic dictionaries, the paper will also analyze the differences in musical terminology in the dictionaries of that time: The dictionary of the Croatian Literary Language (book. I. A-F, book. II. G-K), 1967. ; The dictionary of the Croatian Literary Language from the Revival to L G Kovačića (12 volumes), 1985.-1990. and The Great dictionary of Foreign Words and Abbreviations 11966, 21974. and The dictionary of Foreign Words 11986, 21988.
