Walk a Mile in My Shoes
Being a child with developmental difficulty is a struggle. Not being able to follow a developmental curve as peers do can lead to frustration and isolation, and the risk of lowered well-being is much higher. One of the ways to support a child in reaching his/her potential is by increasing the level of tolerance in the general population and more specifically in their social surrounding. Helping other typically developed children to understand the needs of their peers at a daycare center or in a classroom can lead to enhanced inclusion process and help to engage them more and make friends with a child with developmental difficulty. This workshop aims to capacitate professionals and others interested in implementing genuine inclusion, by giving ideas how to present different struggles children with disability face, by using easily accessible materials and engaging in different oculomotor and motoric tasks. The demonstration is followed by a discussion on benefits and possible outcomes.
