The Ambiences of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival as Storytellers

The Dubrovnik Summer Festival (DSF) is held every year from 10 July to 25 August. Its performances occur within the space of more than 70 open-air venues. During this time of year, squares, palaces, gardens, fortresses, towers and parks get transformed into real places of magic in which top artists, ensembles and troupes from all around the world share their stories, creative freedom and cultural diversity with their audience. This chapter tells a story about diversity and the importance of the ambience of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival as a principal distinguishing feature of the Croatian cultural heritage within a world cultural context. This chapter offers a short but concise overview on the fast development of the DSF through the growing number of performances together with its ambiences. Thus, the ambiences of the DSF determine not only the repertoire of each DSF, but also its organisation, popularity and uniqueness.
