Social Dialogue in Context – EU Standards and Croatian Reality
The EU labour law standards define social dialogue as an extremely important tool for good governance, collective bargaining and above all, for better relations between employer(s) and workers (trade unions). Unfortunately, it seems that Croatia lacks the culture of honest and concrete social dialogue which in the period of economic crises showed the absence of dialogue at all. In the paper the author will give a short introduction to the EU approach and regulation of the social dialogue with emphasising the best models in some sectors. In the second part of the paper, the author will give a review of the situation in the Republic of Croatia in the last ten years (five years before the EU Membership and five years after becoming the 28th EU Member State). In the last part of the paper, the author will give some de lege ferenda suggestions, in line to prevent future situations which destroyed the culture of dialogue between the social partners.
