M.G. Vassanji's The Book of Secrets or the Art of Intricate Spatial Interplay
Text dicusses loss of place and identity in Vassanji's novel The Book of Secrets. It desribes the colonial space that both silences beings and erases all hisories prior to colonial invasions. Place and diplacement shape and govern the constuction of the self in migratory space. Loss of spatial memory induced by forced exile is accompanied by loss of terrritory and national identity, causing confusion and problematic self-location.
