Businesspeople Influencing Public Policy: Could and Should Government Use Their Inputs Better? - The Case of Croatia -
This dissertation examines the business- government relationship in the policy debate, with an emphasis on the advisory role of the business leaders. After reviewing relevant literature and case studies and pointing out crucial issues in the interaction among actors in the society that are influencing policy debate, it focuses on Croatia, the South East European post-socialist country in the process of EU integration. The real social dialogue in Croatia started only at the end of 1990s, and it is still developing and getting on importance. Croatia has adopted many lessons on public-private dialogue from Ireland, and has common past and hopefully common future with Slovenia, so these two countries were taken into consideration as well. Some unique features and prospects of the Croatian public- private dialogue were recognised. The paper argues that Croatian Government could and should better use the commitment and domestic and international experience of its business leaders.
