Fatty acid treatment and cholesterol lowering drug simvastatin displace neuroplastin Np-65 from lipid rafts
High-fat diet and cholesterol lowering treatment by simvastatin may affect positioning of immunoglobulin synaptic molecules involved in synaptogenesis like neuroplastin 65. SH-SY5Y cell line was treated with simvastatin or fatty acids (palmitic, stearic and oleic). Both, simvastatin and fatty acid treatments, displaced Np65 from lipid rafts, but have opposite effect on neurite length possible due to different lipid raft pertubance of signalling mechanisms.
