Internet Surveys: Potential Applications In The Field of Work and Organizational Psychology
Fast development of the Internet in terms both of technological possibilities and number of users opens up new opportunities in psychological research. Until now, online surveys have been primarily used in the field of marketing research. The number of online marketing research agencies is growing rapidly, and the research techniques employed are becoming increasingly sophisticated. Nevertheless, more and more members of the scientific community are also beginning to recognize the benefits of Internet-based research. The American Psychological Society lists more than one hundred psychological research projects that are currently carried out over the Internet. This paper reviews current achievements of Internet-based research and examines its benefits and drawbacks. Furthermore, it discusses methodological issues of several surveys conducted over the Internet on a large panel of Croatian Internet users. Finally, the paper suggests possible applications of Internet-based research in the field of Work and Organizational Psychology, ranging from use of the Internet in recruitment process to continuous, web-based evaluation of employees&#8217 ; ; ; satisfaction.
