Simulation and analysis of end-to-end radio frequency transceiver using educational kit

Teaching courses of applied electromagnetism, microwave electronics and wireless systems is a very challenging task and it is important to supplement student theoretical knowledge with different experimental setup through simple laboratory exercises using modern analysis and measuring equipment. Along with laboratory exercises it is also important to stimulate motivation and creativity of students through various student projects like making different antennas etc. and also to awake their interest for scientific research. In this paper, we present setup for different experiments using Keysight DreamCatcher ME1000 educational kit (transmitter, receiver) suitable for undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the area of radio frequency (RF) and wireless communication that we use in the Communications Systems Laboratory of the University of Dubrovnik. This educational kit can create an end-to-end RF system containing transmitter and receiver and can very vividly demonstrate transmission of signals. All individual parts of transmitter and receiver such as amplifiers, mixers, filters and frequency synthesizers can also be analyzed and explored in detail like in real-life conditions.
