Evaluation of the treatment in the Daily Clinic for Gambling Addiction – Preliminary Study Results
In 2015, Psychiatric Hospital “St. John” in Zagreb (Croatia) opened the Daily Clinic for Gambling Addiction due to a rising prevalence of problem gambling. This treatment represents a 3 months semi-structured and intensive multidimensional and multidisciplinary approach for gambling addicts. Psychiatrist, social pedagogue, social worker, occupational therapist and a nurse provide different treatment interventions that include individual and group psychotherapy, socioemotional skills training, family therapy, support groups etc. During 2018 and 2019, a research team started to conduct a preliminary evaluation study of this treatment assessing patients in two time points – at the beginning of the treatment and at the end. A comprehensive set of instruments is used assessing gambling related symptoms, cognition, socio-emotional skills and personal relationships in order to gain insight about the outcomes of this program. In this presentation results of the preliminary study conducted on N=96 patients (Mage=32.2 ; M=94% ; F=6%) who finished their treatment in this Daily Clinic will be presented and interpreted in the context of possible treatment modifications and further improvements of the evaluation design.
