Environmental Consciousness in D.H.Lawrence's Novels
This diploma paper deals with the concept of environmental consciousness as presented in D.H. Lawrence's novels, mainly Sons and Lovers, The Rainbow, The Plumed Serpent, and Lady Chatterley’s Lover. Lawrence’s novels exhibit the author’s awareness of the ever-going conflict between nature and society as he openly and fervently speaks against the infuriating materialism of his era. Therefore, the changes brought about by the industrial revolution presented in his works are essentially interpreted according to an ecological perspective, thus making Lawrence a pioneer of environmentally conscious literature.
