Possible Revitalization of Mature Fields in Croatia -CO2 Process Assesment from Laboratory Data
Injection of carbon dioxide (CO2) into mature, partially depleted oilfields on order to improve oil production and increase ultimate recovery has been widely applied EOR process. Initial CO2 projects in the past had economic benefits of large field size and remaining life. Nevertheless, provided that sufficient sources of CO2 are available, smaller fields may also be candidates for CO2 EOR since major part of surface infrastructure is in place. Extensive experimental work has been performed in INA Oil Co. during last two decades in order to determine CO2 EOR potential of mature oilfields in Croatian part of Panon depression. Total of 14 small-to-medium size oilfields were studied. In this paper, an overview of most important experimental results obtained is presented. Lab data obtained show favorable CO2 process-type distribution (33% miscible, 59% near-miscible and 8% immiscible) for oil reservoirs studied. Sava depression oilfields, which contain 63% of total target oil after waterflood are leading candidates for CO2 process implementation (51% miscible, 41% near-miscible, 8% immiscible, respectively).
