Using European Carbon Dioxide Emission Allowances for Investments in Storage Technologies
The stock market price of energy sources determines the investments in large energy systems such as geothermal power plants or the development of existing hydrocarbon fields. Many methods are used to quickly indicate the prospects of profitable trading. In the case of energy sources, a statistical distribution of price change and volatility of price change depends on the time window for the analysis. In this chapter, time-window is proposed to determine the signal of price change. By using such signals, the change of one parameter (i.e. price) might anticipate the change of the other and with a consistent time delay of respective signals for two parameters, a system for long- term investments in low-carbon energy production can be developed. When CO2 utilization and storage are considered, the particular interest is put on CO2, along with electricity, coal, natural gas, and crude oil price. EUA price shows great variations, and strongly depends on the observed period
