Vjerski motivi u suvremenom hrvatskom igranom filmu

During the last quarter of the century, religious topics in Croatian cinema, as well as related motifs related to family and wider social communities in certain socio-political circumstances, have been thematised in different ways. These ways depend on several factors that are conditioned by the author's profiles and worldviews of the filmmakers, their ambitions, their ways of thinking, their family and social background, and the ability to appropriately articulate and harmonize all this, then the current social and political environment that developed from the war and postwar till peacetime with related notional and ideological orientations and author's choices, and chosen wider or narrower genre signs and features. Analyzing 13 selected feature films, this article proves the hypothesis claiming that in recent years the Croatian cinema has come to the trend of showing the Catholic Church and Priests in predominantly negative light, particularly in the films "Last Communion", "The Priest's Children" and "Agape".
