Effects of chronic stress and gonadectomy on expression of serotonin receptors in dorsal horn of the spinal cord
The aim of this study is to determine whether chronic, experimentally induced stress causes plastic changes in part of the spinal cord (SC) pain perception pathways, by acting on the expression of different types of serotonin receptors (5HT1A and 5HT2A), involved in the (descending) modulation path. Given the well- known phenomenon of sex differences in susceptibility to painful stimuli we also investigated the impact of gender and sex steroid deprivation.
