Zbijenost tla - jedan od uzroka nižih prinosa flue-cured duhana u Republici Hrvatskoj
The production of tobacco in Croatia is located on sandy soils in the river Drava valley. The smallness of farms and economic influences in the production of flue-cured tobacco in Croatia are reasons why tobacco cultivation has often gone on in conditions of monoculture or very narrow crop rotation. The vary common increased content of silt particles of fine sand in the mechanical composition of the soil, and the frequent shallow tilling, has had the effect of increasing the compaction of the soil in the ploughed layer and the layer below it. This increased compaction reduced the development of the root system and decreased the yield of tobacco in Croatia. With the introduction of subsoiling and deeper ploughing to the compact soils of Norther Croatia, a reduced amount of compaction was measured, a better development of the root system and higher tobacco yields. In field trials on subsoiled and unsubsoiled soil in the split-block method, ploughing was done to 20, 30 and 40 cm. Deeper ploughing reduced the compaction, increased the volume for aeration, which contributed to the better yield of tobacco leaf. The greatest mechanical resistance was measured on shallow-ploughed soil at depths of 25-30 cm and 30-35 cm. Here an average smaller growth and development of the root system was determined, which reduced the yield of tobacco leaf.
